The Curriculum

"Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life."
- The International Physical Literacy Association, May 2014

The Curriculum Intention

  • The Lawnswood School PE Curriculum aims to provide students with the skills, knowledge and confidence to excel in competitive sport and continue to participate in recreational sport out of school and in to further life.
  • Competition is built in to the curriculum in each lesson and also with specific competition blocks where cross class competitions will take place.
  • The curriculum also aims to develop a level of knowledge related to understanding the importance of a healthy lifestyle and how students can maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • The curriculum is underpinned by a strong extra-curricular programme which gives students further opportunities to apply their skills in competitive sport (for example in football and netball) and also to experience further recreational opportunities (for example in dance and badminton).
