
Confidence
We believe that confidence in mathematics comes from understanding. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that new concepts are introduced in manageable steps and build on secure prior learning. By developing fluency first, students establish strong foundations before applying their understanding through reasoning and problem-solving.
Key ideas are revisited throughout the curriculum to strengthen recall, deepen understanding and help students make connections between different areas of mathematics. This enables students to approach increasingly complex concepts and unfamiliar problems with confidence.
Through the consistent use of representations, both concrete and pictorial, clear explanations and carefully designed learning experiences, students develop an appreciation of the coherent and connected nature of mathematics. These representations help students explore mathematical ideas before expressing, generalising and applying them algebraically. As their understanding grows, so does their confidence to think mathematically, justify their reasoning and tackle challenging and unfamiliar problems independently.
