Meet Owen - Year 9
Hi I am Owen in Year 9.
Music is my passion; I play fiddle, mandolin, and trumpet. My main instrument is fiddle and I play both classical and folk music. At the moment I’m concentrating on Irish folk music, although I also play sevdah, American and gypsy.
I love my music, especially the spontaneity of an Irish session. This year, I’m hoping to go to Ireland for the third time and take part in an Irish music summer school.
Every month, I co-present a folk radio show on Chapel FM, where I discuss and play my favourite music.
At school, I am very interested in history, in particular the Russian Revolution and the history of politics.
I also enjoy creative writing, drama and performing spoken word.
Thanks to Mr. Findlay and his chess club, I was able to gain the title of U12s Supremo of the North Yorkshire and ended up in the last 2000 of 56000 entries nationally. The competition was quite stressful but I enjoyed playing and would recommend it to anyone.
Along with Shabrina Warastri, I lead the Digital Innovators strand of Student Leadership. At the moment, we are working to replace Frog, the school VLE, with a more productive system; leading a coding club for primary school and eventually replacing our paper planners with digital planners for all.
If you would like to join the Digital Innovators, then please ask me, Shabrina or Miss Amin in F03 for details.
