Dear parent / carer
As we reach the half way point of the summer term, we are now well established in exam season and are awaiting the formal report from our recent Ofsted visit. We hope to receive this shortly before or after half term and will send you a copy when it arrives. In the meantime, we continue to focus on maintaining a supportive environment for study and progress for all students.
Summer exam season
Our students have started their exams well and we are very pleased with the way they have conducted themselves so far. Year 13 exams start in earnest next week and we wish all our students the best of luck.
I would also like to thank you for your support of us and your child during this stressful time. We look forward to celebrating with them and you in August.
Many of our Muslim students are fasting for the period of Ramadan and so far, I believe, they are managing to balance their obligations as Muslims with their pursuit of education. As I said in my last update, if you have any particular concerns about your child during Ramadan, please raise it with his or her year team.
Lawnswood Community Picnic: Friday 22 June
The EAL department, Year 7 students and Friends of Lawnswood are hosting a community picnic at school on Friday 22 June to mark the end of Refugee Week. It will take place from 3.30pm until 6.30pm. We will email you closer to the time with more details and to invite you, your family and friends to what we aim to be a lovely informal event.
Students of the Month for April
Abdulrahman Alobathany in Year 7 always has a smile on his face and he sets a great example across school. For example, in the diner, where he will clear the table before leaving, even if it is not his untidiness.
Layla Walker in Year 8’s happy demeanour and smile are contagious! She demonstrates complete commitment to her community and, in particular, the early morning Breakfast Club would be lost without her responsible input.
Safwaan Ramzan in Year 9 is setting a great example to others with his consistent effort and good attitude. He has 100% attendance and was recently involved in our Mosaic business enterprise presentation (story coming soon on our website).
Amaan Ahmed in Year 10 has quietly earned our praise and recognition for his significant work outside school, fundraising for charity. Well done, Amaan.
Half term school holiday
School will finish at the usual time of 2.45pm on Friday 25 May for the half term break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back at 8.30am on Monday 4 June.
I wish all our students a restful holiday and, in particular, those with exams a calm and productive period of revision.
