Dear parent / carer
This is the last update of the term and I am sure that, like all the staff and students in school, you are also looking forward to an opportunity to rest and spend time with family over the forthcoming holiday period.
Roads, routes and traffic
Traffic on site
Although I have mentioned this in previous updates, I should like to repeat my request that, if you drop your child(ren) at school in the morning, you do not drive onto school site. Cars manoeuvring in school’s narrow driveway when there are already lots of students moving around in front of the building present a significant risk to safety. The danger to pedestrians is increased by the darker mornings at the moment too.
I should be grateful if you would drop students off at a suitable spot in the vicinity of school, but not on the site, where students gather in advance of the student access doors opening at 8.00am.
Planned changes to Lawnswood roundabout
As you may know, Leeds City Council plans to replace the traditional roundabout next to school with a crossroads with traffic lights. Public consultation has ended and the project is currently being finalised. Last week, traffic surveys were undertaken at the beginning and end of the school day to assess the volume and pattern of traffic on the roads near the roundabout. Spen Road and Weetwood Road exits
At my request, the survey done last week near Lawnswood roundabout was extended to include Spen Road.
With a view to improving pedestrian safety, I have also requested that zig zag (no stopping/parking) road markings are added to sections of Spen Road and Weetwood Road around our exit gates. I shall keep you updated the progress of this request.
You and your family and friends are warmly invited to join us at our Winter Festival from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Wednesday 19 December.
The festival offers an evening of music, dance and drama performances to listen and watch! It’s also a wonderful opportunity to so some last minute Christmas shopping with art, craft, food and interactive stalls! We hope to see you there!
Tickets are £3 for adults, £2 for children and concessions. Tickets available from Mrs Rushton in F47 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Festive jumper day
As I mentioned in my last update, we will have a ‘festive jumper day’ next Friday, which is the last day of term.
For a donation of £1 (for Save the Children), students and staff are encouraged to wear the most festive and/or daft seasonal jumper for the day.
If you are able to make your child’s donation through ParentPay, that would help us to raise funds efficiently and minimise and cash confusion on the day.
School finishes for students at 12.30pm on Friday 21 December.
