Headteacher Update

Dear parent / carer

As the end of another half term approaches, I am pleased to share the following updates.

Seneca Learning

We are encouraging all of our students to register with Seneca Learning. This is a free, online resource for GCSE, A Level, KS3 and KS2 courses. All the courses are exam board specific and written by examiners and industry experts. Seneca’s research ('Learn 2x Faster') involved 1,120 students and found that students using Seneca performed 105% better than peers studying using revision guides. We are providing opportunities in school to enable students to access Seneca Learning, and hope that students can add to this by revising at home or at their local library. We realise that online revision sessions do not suit all students, so we are still sharing many other strategies to support students with retention and recall.

To start on Seneca Learning:

Step 1: Visit senecalearning.com and sign-up Step 2: Select a student or parent account

Step 3: Students - add your courses and join your teacher’s class - your teacher will be able to provide the code for your class.

Step 4: Start learning

If you have any questions at all about this, please get in touch with school.

Students’ appointments out of school during the school day

If your child needs to leave school or will arrive late to school because he/she has an out-of- school medical appointment or similar, we need information from you about it please.

To enable us to handle the matter efficiently, please inform us in advance by writing the time and reason for the absence in your child’s planner (in the space for the day of the appointment).

Change to guidelines for the provision of secondary school bus services

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority organises and subsidises a range of school bus services across West Yorkshire. These services are provided where suitable public transport services are not available.

The Combined Authority must ensure that limited funds are targeted where most needed. As a result, the authority plans to revise the provision of subsidised school bus services from September and is seeking views from users and other interested parties before doing so.

You, your children and others are invited to complete an online questionnaire. The questionnaire is on the Combined Authority’s website, where you can also find  out  more  about the proposed changes: https://www.yourvoice.westyorks-ca.gov.uk/schoolbuses

The deadline for completing questionnaires is 15 March 2019.

The Addams Family – 5 to 7 February

If you managed to see our production of The Addams Family this week, I trust you enjoyed   the show as much as I and other colleagues have. Our staff and students involved collaborated very effectively, committed several months of hard work to the preparation and, this week,  have demonstrated their brilliant creativity! I am sure the students will have developed their confidence as a result. I am sure you would join me in celebrating their fabulous work by passing on our enormous thanks to absolutely everyone who contributed to the show; it has been an extravaganza of humour, song and dance.

Year 9 options

Following Year 9 options evening on 23 January, we look forward to seeing Year 9 parents and carers at the year group’s Consultation Evening on Thursday 14 February.

The deadline for Year 9 students’ subject choices for Key Stage 4 to be handed in is Friday 15 February.

Non-uniform day on Friday 15 February

Students will be allowed to wear non-uniform on Friday 15 February in return for donating

£1 to the funds for end-of-year rewards trips and activities. I should be grateful if you would ensure your child(ren) come to school with £1 that day if they are coming to school in their  own choice of clothes.

Year 11 preparation for exams

We encourage students to revise over the forthcoming half term break. If they need any support preparing for that, students can talk to their subject teachers or contact Mrs Parker, the Head of Year.

On return to school after the break, we will be supporting Year 11 students more intensely as they approach their GCSE examinations.
